How LeCompute handles (and mostly does not handle) your personal data.
Courtesy translation. LeCompute is published in France and its legal pages are drafted in French. This English version is provided for convenience only: in case of any discrepancy, the French version is the one that applies.
Principle
LeCompute is a static editorial site. It asks for no account, displays no behavioral advertising, and collects the strict minimum needed to operate.
Data collected
- Server logs: the host may retain technical logs (IP address, date, page requested) for security and aggregate statistics.
- Audience measurement: traffic is measured with Umami, self-hosted on the same server as the site (stats.lecompute.fr). No cookies, no personal identifier and no transfer of data to a third party. This setup meets the criteria of the French data protection authority (CNIL) for audience measurement exempt from consent collection.
- No account, no tracking form: the site builds no user profile.
Newsletter
The newsletter is currently offered in French only. If you subscribe, your email address is stored in listmonk, software self-hosted on the same server as the site, in Europe. Subscription is double opt-in: it only takes effect after confirmation through the link received by email. The legal basis is your consent (art. 6.1.a GDPR), which you may withdraw at any time.
- Data collected: the email address, nothing else.
- Use: sending the newsletter, and nothing else. No resale, no profiling, and no individual open or click tracking.
- Processor: SMTP delivery is delegated to Brevo (a French company). Each recipient's address is passed to them to deliver the message. The subscriber base and the preferences stay administered in listmonk.
- Proof of consent: LeCompute retains the date of the request, the language, the originating page and the version of the information presented. The address is represented in that log by a cryptographic fingerprint, and the IP address is not kept.
- Retention and exit: every email carries a one-click unsubscribe link; the subscription management page also lets you export or permanently erase your data. You can also write to redaction@lecompute.fr.
Cookies
The site sets no advertising cookie and no third-party tracker. Only strictly necessary cookies may be used; they do not require consent under the GDPR.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have a right to access, rectify and erase the data concerning you. To exercise it, write to redaction@lecompute.fr. You may also lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority.
Email contact
The emails you send us are kept for as long as it takes to handle your request, then deleted. They are neither resold nor used for canvassing.
